hahah, this How To is just a week too late for me, it would’ve been helpful when I was doing piping for the first time on my “Glastonbury meets IKEA” dress. But I sorted out a method that worked for me in the end!

When I apply piping I stitch it to the outer edge, making sure it is aligned with the seam allowance, to one side with my zipper foot. Then pin the other outer layer of fabric over the piping. I turn up the side that was previously stitched and stitch on top of that row of stitches, still using my zipper foot. That way I always know it has been stitched as close to the piping as possible, my seam allowance is correct, and there is no basting showing on the out side that needs to be removed.
